AVKA was born from a love of colourful objects that make you smile.
Tired with the , clinical world of mass-produced minimalism that the world encourages — we wanted to create a range of products that were uplifting and spread joy through homes across the world — and didn’t harm the environment on the way to that.
Our products are kind on your eyes and on the planet — but AVKA isn’t here to sell you a dream or an inspirational monologue. Our products are named as a loving shout-out to everyone whose names get mispronounced (or sometimes missed altogether), showing that it’s not what you call it that counts.
Instead we produce simple, colourful objects using Jesmonite, an eco-friendly material. You can learn about how we create products such as our LULU Pots over on our Process page.
Our team of designers work to create homeware that can provide style, function, and comfort.
All AVKA products are designed in-house and have to meet our core principles of being simple, colourful and bold. Our team of designers & crafters work with each other to develop products that cause minimal waste, with products such as our BLERG Rainbow Slab reusing the offcuts and prototypes from the AVKA range.
One of our original members, Tim has been with us from the start and is responsible for the among lots of others.
Lucy is our Founder and CEO. She has been designing products for over 25 years and loves to work with new materials.
Julia is a passionate and driven product designer. She has lots of amazing products including the YEZIK desk tidy.
Harris joined our team in 2015 and is the designer behind the LEKKI candle stick holder.
Our team of designers work to create homeware that can provide style, function, and comfort.
We believe waste is a design flaw, so we tried figure out a way to reduce it whilst still creating products that you love, such as our OST Candlestick Holder.
As part of our commitment to a more sustainable product range, our products are creating using reusable, sustainable materials and processes — and are shipped packaging that is recyclable, reusable or is already made/reused from post-consumer waste.
Our range of prints are made from recycable materials, for example our JOSTE A3 Riso Print is printed on Munken paper, a paper mill that centres on the idea that they ‘borrow’ resources from their surroundings, rather than simply taking and using them.
The inks used for Risograph printing are also sustainably made from soy and unlike standard printers, RISO printers are free from ozone emissions, toner particle emissions, silica dust, and other air pollutants. We believe there is always room for improvement, and it’s about lots of little steps over time coming together to create a better future.
